Er hat bei Joe K. Walsh Mandoline studiert. Er spielt Bluegrass, aber auch Klassik, speziell auch Werke von Johann Sebastian Bach. Dabei setzt er auch seine Oktavmandoline ein. Jake Howard transkribiert regelm\u00e4\u00dfig die Mandolinenst\u00fccke von wichtigen Mandolinenspielern, wie Chris Thile oder Sam Bush, er hat aber auch die Gitarrensoli von Tony Rice f\u00fcr Mandoline transkribiert. Videos und Transkriptionen findet man besonders bei Patreon. Jake Howard spielt bei den Bands &#8222;Henhouse Prowlers&#8220; und &#8222;Westbound Situation&#8220; und hat mit diesen Bands verschiedene Alben aufgenommen.
