Short Biography
Dave Griffiths is a blues, choro and jazz mandolin player based in Bristol UK. Studied classical violin and double bass. He started playing mandolin in the 60’s influenced by blues, ragtime and jug band music. He has performed at concerts and music festivals, both on mandolin and double bass, in the UK, Europe and the USA including Radio and Television appearances. He has worked, toured and recorded with “Tight Like That”, “Paul Brett”, “Dave Paskett”, “Smile”, “Eddie Martin”, “Mingus Fingers” and “Brejeiro“. He played Brazilian choro music with his band “Brejeiro“ for over fifteen years and currently plays with his new choro band “Cavacante” and guitarist, singer song writer “Jim Reynolds“. Dave is an experienced workshop leader and educator running Bristol Jazz Workshops for ten years and courses for BMG, Sore Fingers and Creative Vacances in France.

Dave Griffiths ist ein Blues-, Choro- und Jazz-Mandolinenspieler aus Bristol, Großbritannien. Er hat klassische Geige und Kontrabass studiert. In den 60er Jahren begann er unter dem Einfluss von Blues, Ragtime und Jug-Band-Musik mit dem Mandolinenspiel. Als Mandolinen- und Kontrabassist trat er bei Konzerten und Musikfestivals im Vereinigten Königreich, Europa und den USA auf und hatte Auftritte im Radio und Fernsehen. Er arbeitete, tourte und machte Aufnahmen mit „Tight Like That“, „Paul Brett“, „Dave Paskett“, „Smile“, „Eddie Martin“, „Mingus Fingers“ und „Brejeiro“. Er spielte über fünfzehn Jahre lang brasilianische Choro-Musik mit seiner Band „Brejeiro“ und spielt derzeit mit seiner neuen Choro-Band „Cavacante“ und dem Gitarristen, Sänger und Songschreiber „Jim Reynolds“. Dave ist ein erfahrener Workshop-Leiter und Pädagoge, der zehn Jahre lang die Bristol Jazz Workshops leitete und Kurse für BMG, Sore Fingers und Creative Vacances in Frankreich gab.

How did you learn to play? Teachers? I am self taught having been a violinist. I used the Ranieri „Art Del Mandolino” Vol 1, 2 and 3 method for classical technique and learnt blues, folk and ragtime from Records and CDs and playing with bands.
